A custom domain is a unique web address that is owned and controlled by an individual or organization, typically used for websites, email addresses, and other online services. By using a custom domain, individuals and businesses can enhance their online presence, maintain control over their brand, and improve their site's usability and accessibility.
The PeachWorlds builder now allows you to link your website to a custom domain. After finalizing your website according to your preferences, you can start this process. First, publish the site by clicking the 'Publish' button in the top right corner of the builder, and confirm the action in the popup.
Note: Please be aware that you must first publish your website to the randomly generated PeachWorlds subdomain before you can publish it to your custom domain.
Once you have published your site to PeachWorlds' randomly generated subdomain, a new option will appear in the Publish modal titled "Add Custom Domain". Click this button. A panel will open on the left side with a section labeled "Custom Domain". Here, type in the URL of your custom domain and press enter. The panel will update to display a table:
This part can be a bit challenging if you're unfamiliar with custom domains. First, visit your domain host provider's website (e.g., GoDaddy, AWS, Bluehost). Here, you'll need to enter the values provided in the table into the DNS records of your chosen custom domain. To do this, use the button on the right of each entry to copy its contents. After entering and saving these values, return to the builder, wait for 5 minutes, then click the 'Verify' button.
Note: The changes may take up to a full day or even two to take effect and for the verification process to complete.
After clicking the 'Verify' button, two things could happen: the status will either change to 'Verification Failed' or 'Published'. If you see 'Verification Failed', the most likely causes are either a mistake in the copied DNS data or not waiting long enough for the changes to take effect. If this happens, please try again later and double-check your DNS records. Once you see 'Published', you can close the panel and click the 'Publish' button again to open the pop up. The publish modal will then update to include clickable links to both PeachWorlds' randomly generated subdomain and your custom domain. Now click the update button and viola, your custom domain is connected to your new site and ready to be shared.
