In computer graphics, 3D rendering, and lighting simulation, ambient light refers to environmental illumination coming from all directions. This indirect light fills the scene, creating a base level of brightness. It helps to soften harsh shadows and gives a sense of global illumination.

How does it work?

Ambient lighting in 3D rendering simulates indirect light, contributing to a scene's overall illumination. This technique aids in creating a sense of global illumination and imparts a baseline brightness level to all surfaces in the environment. It's particularly beneficial for filling in shadows and achieving a more uniformly lit scene. Here's an example with ambient light adjusted to maximum intensity.

How do you add/change the ambient light in the 3D scene?

The ambient light can be adjusted in the 3D scene from the right-side inspector panel, under the scene section's ambient light subsection. By default, white ambient light is present in the 3D scene.
